J.D. NASH & RED CIRCLE

Andy Mader (A.K.A. J.D. Nash) approached Shawn in the mid 2000's to record and produce his 2nd album.
He felt that his current producer wasn't quite matching the music with the mood so he asked Shawn to record and produce his next project. In 2006 J.D. and Shawn recorded "..So There I Was..", and along with fellow Backlash band member Brian McGuire they helped write and record new music with J.D. A song from the album, "How You Gonna Be?" was featured at the 9th Annual Native American Music Awards (NAMA) "Spirit of the People" award in 2007. Multiple tracks from this album made the official NAMA programming and nomination ballots, specifically his songs "How You Gonna Be?" and "Mascot". Shawn was nominated for Producer and the album competed in the Best Album category.

The live album debut had J.D. fronting Backlash, and when that happened they were known as Red Circle. Shawn performed in Red Circle playing guitar and keyboards. In 2010 J.D released his third and final album "Get Off My Lawn".
The band retired when Backlash did but J.D. sang on two tracks Shawn released on his album "The Sound of One Hand Clapping" in 2015, "Old Whiskey and Old Friends" and "Whiskey Guitar Blues".

Even though Shawn worked on the original mix for both original album releases he was never happy with it and in 2016 he remixed and remastered both albums and released them on Soundcloud.

On July 5, 2023 J.D. passed away from liver, kidney, and lung complications.

The title "Aluminum" refer to the first album/E.P. that J.D. Nash recorded and released in the early 2000's. He would always say that his first album release was so popular that it went platinum on music sales. Much like what happened with Shawn Ames and the members of Red Circle the songs were created and J.D. played his guitar and sang on them. These are the same recordings he approached Shawn with to record his second album "...So There I Was..." instead of using his current musician and producer that made this recording.
The album was originally titled "Spellbound" and it's all included here, as well as a few live renditions of the some of the same songs recorded live from J.D.'s debut performance at The Static Bar in 2007.
I do not own the recordings or the rights to the contents or music from the original "Spellbound" CD release, it is offered here as a memorial to J.D.'s musical spirit and made available for free to those who would enjoy it, his family and friends. Each song has been remastered for this project in June 2026.
